When choosing a caravan cover or motorhome cover, you will notice the differences in design and shape, however, they both offer the same protective features.

A Waterproof Cover

Make sure the cover is waterproofed to a high standard, this provides protection when the weather is wet and damp, it also prevents a build up of mold and grime.

Caravan covers can also come in breathable designs. If you choose an “Air-Breathable” cover, it will let water vapour escape, and at the same time stop water seeping through and staining the shell of the caravan.

Heatproof against the Sun

It’s best to opt for a cover which is UV protected, this is important for protecting against ultra-violet rays. This will keep the external bodywork free from discolouration and fading, but also protects your internal furnishings from the fading effects of the sun.

Covers which are both weather resistant and breathable will protect against snow, dust, bird lime, tree sap, airbourne pollutants and heat build up. Generally, covers should offer all year round protection.

Additional Features

Before you start shopping around, it is important to know the dimensions of your caravan or motorhome before looking to buy so as to ensure you purchase the correct size. Some covers are adjustable whilst others offer a universal fit. It’s advisable to discuss this with the sales person before purchasing.

Always remember to measure taking into account any bike racks or other external fittings to your caravan or motor home.

Better quality covers have strengthened corners which are more durable and are less likely to rip or lose shape, and zippers can be useful for fast access to the door without having to take off the whole cover. It’s also worth purchasing non abrasive covers to protect the paintwork when fitting.

Covers are usually secured with straps which pass under the vehicle, and if you opt for a lightweight cover fitting will be much easier to handle.

Some Features to look out for:

  • Non abrasive – to protect paintwork.
  • Lightweight – for easy fitting and storage.
  • Waterproof – protects against severe weather.
  • Extended UV protection – to prevent fading inside and out.
  • Breathable – lets moisture escape.
  • Finish – consider for minimal visual impact.
  • Corner Zips – for ease of fitting and easy access to caravan door.
  • Quick Release Buckles – for easy installation and removal.
  • Storage Bag – for convenience and safe keeping.

Before choosing your caravan or motorhome cover, do your measuring, then seek advice from a specialist sales person, a portable holiday home needs protection when not in use, so think carefully before you leave your pride and joy out in the wet and cold.

Caravan Cover 12 – 14ft Breathable Heavy Duty + Free Hitch Cover

caravancoverPurchasing a caravan is one thing and caring for it during the winter months is quite another thing. The caravan gets exposed to a lot of damage from UV rays of the sun, wind, tree sap, airborne pollutants and other hostile elements of the weather and you need to ensure that the caravan is well protected from them.

Even those lucky to have access to good underground storage facilities will need to make sure that general dirt, bird droppings or animal faeces do not start occupying the outside surface. Dust and dirt are very abrasive and even if somebody were to accidentally touch the caravan, they can result in scratches.
The only solution to this is to invest in a weather resistant, water resistant caravan cover that can keep the caravan safe from these problems. It is important that the caravan cover allows ventilation to pass through it so that any dampness or moisture does not lead to condensation getting trapped inside the cover. That is why it is necessary to invest in a water resistant rather than a water proof caravan cover.
Caravan covers are available in a variety of sizes with the 12 – 14ft heavy duty size being quite popular amongst users. You need to measure the caravan from the rear tip of the outer shell to the further most tip of the sloping front to get an idea of the caravan cover size.
You must also ensure that the cover has strong straps made of nylon so that it can be buckled up. The flap must have a zipper so that access is easy and the seams must have double stitches for durability.
